The Benefits of Knowing and Obeying the Scriptures

bible-2a

  • The Scriptures are life changing!

The instructions of the Lord are perfect,
reviving the soul.
The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
  (Psalm 19:7 NLT)

  • The Scriptures can keep us from tripping up.

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet
and a light for my path.
(Psalm 119:105)

  • The scriptures can keep us from sinning.

I have hidden your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
(Psalm 119:11 NLT)

  • The Scriptures give us a solid foundation for everyday living.

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.  (Matthew 7:24 NLT)

  • The truth of the Scriptures set us free from sin.

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.  And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  (John 8:31-32 NLT)

  • The Scriptures can make us holy.

Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.  (John 17:17 NLT)

  • Wholehearted commitment to the scriptures brings prosperity in all that we do.

Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
    or stand around with sinners,
    or join in with mockers.
But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
    bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.  (Psalm 1:1-3 NLT)
